Canadese rapper steekt de draak met de woke-beweging – Fake Woke wordt nummer één op zowel Spotify als YouTube

Reeds twee dagen na de lancering van het nummer Fake Woke, van de Canadese rapper en producer Tom MacDonald, bereikte het de eerste plaats van iTunes in de Verenigde Staten met meer dan een miljoen hits. Kort daarna had de video ook de eerste plaats op YouTube bereikt. Na slechts vier dagen was de video al meer dan 3 miljoen keer bekeken.

De teksten van Tom Macdonald worden door sommigen als controversieel ervaren. In het nummer Fake Woke steekt hij de draak met de hypocrisie achter zowel de cancel- als de woke-cultuur, die de afgelopen jaren het publieke debat heeft gedicteerd.

“Woke” zijn betekent dat je links bent en je bewust bent van en betrokken bij kwesties van ras en sociale rechtvaardigheid. Voorgelicht zijn over het verschil tussen “genderidentiteit” en “genderexpressie” is woke. Als politieagent knielen voor een BLM-demonstratie is superwoke.

Kenmerkend voor de woke-cultuur is een intolerantie voor andere meningen, die vaak tot uiting komt in eisen tot censuur. MacDonald meent dat dit veel van degenen die zichzelf als woke beschouwen tot hypocrieten maakt. Hij gaat ook in op de erfzonde waarmee volgens de Black Lives Matter beweging alle blanken leven.

Macdonalds succes heeft nu precies het gedrag uitgelokt waar het liedje over gaat. Op social media wordt de artiest door links uitgemaakt voor racist en de een na de ander probeert hem uit de toplijsten te krijgen.

Zegt wat anderen alleen maar durven te denken

Tegen degenen die onder aanvoering van Black Lives Matter hebben geëist dat de politie wordt ontmanteld, zegt Macdonald dat de politie al zowel ondergefinancierd als overwerkt is. “Bestel eten en bel de politie, wie denk je dat je het eerst zal bereiken?”, rapt hij.

In het nummer wijst hij ook op het feit dat veel grote artiesten tegenwoordig vooral levende reclamezuilen zijn. Ze brengen alles op de markt, van designerkleding en auto’s tot verslavende medicijnen.

MacDonald zelf zegt volledig onafhankelijk te zijn. Hij produceert de muziek zelf en heeft geen manager, publicist, PR-team of sponsors die hem kunnen beperken in hoe hij zich uitdrukt of wat hij zegt.

In een interview met Fox News zegt MacDonald dat de reden voor de populariteit van het nummer is dat hij bereid is uit te schreeuwen wat de ander niet durft te onthullen.
